Educational Opportunities
Wilkes Art Gallery provides many classes, workshops, and camps to Wilkes County and neighboring counties in the northwestern region of North Carolina. From keeping the roots of Wilkes County alive through pottery to introducing modern technique and new mediums, the Gallery strives to provide a well rounded arts education to new and returning students. Each educational opportunity is tailored to a specific age range and experience level, and ranges in price based on what supplies will be used throughout the duration of the class, workshop, and/or camp.

Additional Information
Parking: If you are attending a class or workshop, there is parking at the front of the Gallery on C Street / Ward Nichols Way. In the event these spots are filled, there is additional parking to the left of the building.

Entering/Exiting the Building: Please enter through the main entrance of the Gallery during operating hours. If you are meeting after Gallery hours, please enter through the downstairs entrance, located on the left side of the building. When you are done, you may exit through the downstairs door (if meeting downstairs) or back door (if meeting in the upstairs classroom). If you are exiting during business hours, you may exit through the main entrance.

Youth Drop-Off/Pick-Up: When dropping off your student(s), please enter through the main entrance of the Gallery and sign your student in. If your student's class ends before closing, please enter the Gallery to sign them out. If your student's class ends after Gallery closing, please plan to pick them up to the left of the Gallery in the side parking lot.

Additional Supplies: Each educational opportunity requires different supplies. Most supplies are accounted for in the price and provided during the session. If additional supplies need to be purchased, the booking description will provide supplies needed and average pricing. Pottery classes do require a purchase of clay
(see below).

Handbuilding and Wheel Classes: Each student will need to purchase a 25 lb. bag of clay. Clay is available for purchase at the Gallery for $20. You may purchase your clay during Gallery hours or at the start of your class. It is recommended that each student brings an apron or dresses appropriately for creating.

Pottery Paintings: The Gallery provides adult pottery paintings and all ages pottery paintings. During the adult sessions, participants are allowed to bring their own wine or beer (liquor not allowed). During the all ages sessions, children must be accompanied by an adult and alcohol of any kind is prohibited. If an adult will be painting a separate piece while accompanying a child, both must be registered and paid for. Light snacks will be provided during all painting sessions. Please allow around three weeks for firing of pieces. Participants will receive either a call or email when pieces are ready for pick-up.

Summer Camps: Supplies are accounted for in the price of each camp. Additional supplies do not need to be purchased. Each session is tailored to a specific age group and is specified in the booking posts. Snack will be provided during each camp session. Please ensure that students are dressed appropriately for creating.
